Choosing The Right Intermittent Fasting Method: Fasting Forward Newsletter (Archive)
Hi Amber,
Moving along from our fasting readiness discussed last week, we’re now venturing into better understanding intermittent fasting and how we can fit it into our busy mom schedule. I now what to help assist you with your options. It’s important to choose a fasting schedule that aligns with your lifestyle and preferences. So let’s try and find the perfect fasting method for you with these things to consider.
Consideration #1: Understand the Options
Begin by familiarizing yourself with the different intermittent fasting methods. These include a wide variety but the most popular are, 16/8 method, 19/5 method, OMAD (One Meal A Day) method, and alternate-day fasting. Each method has its own unique fasting and eating windows, allowing flexibility to suit various schedules and preferences. Consideration 2: Evaluate Your Lifestyle
Take a moment to assess your daily routine, including work commitments, family responsibilities, and personal preferences. Consider factors such as meal times, social engagements, and energy levels throughout the day. This will help you identify fasting schedules that seamlessly integrate into your lifestyle. When in doubt, start with the 16/8 to get your feet wet and go from there. Check out how I plan my fasts ever month in this video.
Consideration 3: Consider Your Goals
Think about your health and wellness goals and how intermittent fasting can support them. Whether you’re looking to lose weight, improve metabolic health, or boost energy levels, choosing the right fasting method can help you achieve your objectives more effectively. The longer you fast, the quicker the benefits will show up. But balance that knowledge with consistency. Don’t go out of the gate, too fast, too soon or you’ll set yourself up for fasting failure. I share a super important nugget in this video.
Consideration 4: Choose Your Fasting Window
Based on your lifestyle and goals, select a fasting window that feels manageable and sustainable for you. THIS IS SOOO KEY! You have to think long term. Not about just today or tomorrow when you’re feeling inspired. I like to think in a month at a time. Use my cycle fasting cheat sheet to get you started. Hot Tip: Get your fasting legs under you before you start extending your fasts.
Consideration 5: Experiment and Adjust
Once you’ve chosen a fasting method, give it a try and pay attention to how your body responds. Experiment with different fasting schedules and eating windows to find what works best for you. It’s best to start with the 16/8 if you are unsure. Be open to adjusting your approach as needed to ensure it fits seamlessly into your lifestyle.
Choosing the right intermittent fasting method is a personal decision that depends on your individual needs, preferences, and goals. By understanding the options available, evaluating your lifestyle, and considering your objectives, you can confidently select a fasting schedule that supports your health and wellness journey as a busy mom.
Remember to listen to your body, stay flexible, and be patient as you navigate the world of intermittent fasting. With the right approach, you’ll discover a fasting method that fits seamlessly into your life and helps you achieve your health and wellness goals.
