Haters Going To Hate: Surviving Criticism About Your Intermittent Fasting Lifestyle
Intermittent fasting can be met with a great amount of criticism and skepticism from certain people. Your mother-in-law, well-meaning co-workers, no it all neighbors, and even close family due to lack of understanding.
You’ll get… that is so unhealthy, you’re starving yourself, I can’t believe you do that, that’s crazy, and so on. I’ve heard them all. Here are some tips for how to handle your mother-in-law’s disapproval of your intermittent fasting lifestyle:
Don’t tell anyone about your fasting:
If they catch on, then use one of the following go-to sentences to get these haters off your back;
- “I’m trying out intermittent fasting to see how it works for me. I appreciate your concern, but I’m doing what’s best for my body.”
- “I understand that you might not agree with my decision, but I’ve done my research and I feel confident that this is the right choice for me.”
- “I’m not trying to force anyone else to do this with me, but I would appreciate your support in my decision to try something new for my health.”
- “Intermittent fasting is actually a scientifically proven method for improving health and longevity. Maybe we can even try it together sometime!”
- “I love you and I value your opinion, but ultimately this is my body and my decision to make. I hope you can respect that.”
Educate them:
If you care enough about someone’s questions, educate them.
Explain to them the benefits of intermittent fasting, such as improved energy levels, mental clarity, and weight loss.
Encourage them to do their own research on the topic, so they can understand why you have chosen this lifestyle.
Stick to Your Guns:
Stay committed to your fasting routine and don’t let your mother-in-law’s or anyone else’s opinions sway you. Remember that this is your body and your health, and ultimately, you are the one who knows what is best for you.
Find Common Ground:
Try to find areas of agreement with this well-meaning person. Maybe both of you can agree on the importance of living a healthy lifestyle and making good choices for your body.
Focus on the positive aspects of intermittent fasting and how it can benefit your health.
Set Boundaries:
If someone continues to criticize your lifestyle choice, it may be necessary to set some boundaries. Politely let them know that you appreciate her concern, but that this is your personal choice and you would prefer if she respected your decision.
Keep Your Sense of Humor:
You’re gonna get plenty of haters. Even if they are well-meaning. Dealing with a critical loved one can be stressful, but try to maintain a sense of humor.
Laugh off their comments and don’t take their criticism too seriously.
Remember that ultimately, you are in charge of your own health and happiness.
Intermittent fasting can be a wonderful lifestyle choice for busy moms, but it can also be met with disapproval from others.
By educating others, sticking to your fasting routine, finding common ground, setting boundaries, and keeping your sense of humor, you can navigate any negativity that comes your way.
And who knows? Maybe you’ll have some converters that will even be inspired to try intermittent fasting themselves!
