Thirsty Mama? How to Stay Hydrated While Fasting Without Drinking Your Kids’ Juice Boxes
Are you tired of drinking plain old water during your fasts? Or maybe you’re confused about what you can and cannot drink.
As a busy mom, you deserve a little flavor in your life!
So here are some creative options for staying hydrated while fasting.
If your fasting goals involve complete gut rest then sorry mama, you get water, coffee, and herbal tea (no spices).
But for weight loss, these will do just fine!
Coffee:
Yes, you read that right! Coffee is actually allowed during intermittent fasting.
BUT… and this is a BIG BUT…as long as it’s black, no milk or cream. Milk and cream can push you out of your fasted state by spiking your insulin and starting your metabolism.
Some people do it anyways and this is called… “dirty fasting”. So do whatever feels right to you but just know, once that metabolism revs, you’re hunger pains are soon to follow.
Also, note that the caffeine boost might just be what you need to power through your day and it also suppresses your appetite.
Tea:
If coffee isn’t your thing, fear not! Tea is another great option, and there are endless varieties to choose from.
Whether you’re a fan of herbal, green, or black tea, you can enjoy a soothing and flavorful cup without breaking your fast.
Like I stated before, just no spices in your tea. That can start your metabolism up.
Vegetable or Mushroom Broth:
I know, people are going to freak out over this one. And this is truly a DIRTY FAST hack.
BUT… if you’re feeling a little low on energy and just can’t seem to get into the groove of intermittent fasting because of hunger pains or your habit of eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner; then I’d suggest sipping a cup of broth vs. throwing in the towel.
Do anything you can to get your body used to intermittent fasting and that might mean broth in the beginning stages.
Sipping on some warm broth can be a delicious and nourishing way to stay hydrated during your fast. Just make sure to choose a low-sodium option to avoid any unnecessary bloating.
Lemon Water:
This won’t rev your metabolism but it does give your gut something to digest.
So if your goal is complete gut rest, then no, but weight loss, this can be a nice addition to get enough water in throughout the day.
Simply squeeze a wedge or two of lemon into your water for a zesty and invigorating flavor.
Sparkling Water:
Sometimes, you just need a little fizz in your life! Luckily, sparkling water is a great option for those who want a little more excitement in their beverages.
Sparkling water can provide a satisfying and hydrating pick-me-up. Flavored technically would be a dirty fast but if it keeps you fasting, it’s better than not fasting!
Don’t let plain old water bore you out of fasting.
With these drink options, you can stay hydrated and satisfied all day long.
So there you have it, thirsty mamas!
