Vacationing and Fasting: How to Have Your Cake and Eat It Too

As a busy mom, our family recently took a much-needed vacation to beautiful French Polynesia, but I didn’t let that stop me from continuing my intermittent fasting routine.

Here are my top 5 tips for fasting while on vacation, without sacrificing all the fun and relaxation.

Plan Ahead:

Before embarking on your trip, do some research on the restaurants in the area and look for options that will accommodate your fasting routine.

Many restaurants offer healthy meals that can fit into your fasting window. We had so much Tahitian Poisson Cru (Marinated Raw Fish) that was delicious and satisfying.

Stay Hydrated:

It’s essential to stay hydrated while on vacation, especially if you’re fasting.

Carry a reusable water bottle with you at all times and make sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day.

We had boiled water and added fruit to it because it didn’t taste great, as well as bought bottled water.

Enjoy Local Fruits:

If you’re traveling to a tropical destination like the French Polynesia, take advantage of the delicious local fruits.

Not only are they a healthy snack option, but they’re also a great way to satisfy your sweet tooth without going too overboard.

Also, local, in-season, fruit was some of the cheapest food on the island where everything was outrageously priced!

Be Active:

Don’t let your vacation be an excuse to laze around all day.

Take advantage of the beautiful scenery and go for a hike, swim in the ocean, or try some water sports. We did it all.

We also couldn’t really sit and relax because of our 3-year-old keeping us on our toes.

Not only will it keep you active, but it will also distract you from any hunger pangs.

Relax and Indulge:

Finally, don’t forget to enjoy your vacation!

It’s okay to indulge in some of the local delicacies, even if they don’t fit into your fasting window.

After all, vacations are meant to be enjoyed, so don’t stress too much about sticking to your routine.
